Photographs of Dodworth

Photographs of the village are on sale through the church - to help raise money for the church window fund - the photographs are on a CD, there are 349 of them. The disc can be 'played' on regular DVD players and computers - just pop it in and wait for the pictures to come on the screen, they change every 5 seconds or so. Not all of the photos are old, some are quite new, in the main they show points of interest - to me that is - over the past few years and can be useful as a memory jogger etc. Some folks have sent them to relatives and friends far away. Over Christmas the discs were selling for a minimum donation of £2 each, they are on sale at the church or through the Library on the crossroads.

  1. Update - This is a kind of out-of-date update, as the thing it refers to happened some weeks ago, but it still seems important.
The Church Window Fund has received a very large donation - in fact a kind and worthy person has donated the full amount of money needed to repair the window.
The donor is no longer with us, the money was left in her Will. The generous person was Doris Laughton. Known to many as 'Little Doris' she was a lady of mature years who lived in Gilroyd, and in time past had for many years worked at Wentworth Castle.
May God bless Little Doris whose gift will be of great value to many local people for years to come.
Work on the window will be undertaken in the coming months. It will be an elaborate process carried out by a specialist company from York.

Those less committed to the venture may wish to know that much of the cost of repair will be spent in meeting labour charges for skilled work and will thus ensure employment for those craftsmen involved. Any modest surplus in the fund; having been already gathered, will be given to other related causes.

  2. Photographs of Dodworth - update.
The photographs referred to above are still available for anyone interested. they can be obtained by contacting this blog or through St John's Church. It appears that developments in technology mean that it is best to count on the disc being usable as 'screen-saver' or collection of photos for use on a computer, as it will not work in some DVD players. At least one enterprising person has taken the disc to a photo shop and had a print made of a picture on the disc. This can easily be done for any of the photos.
